The Navigators in the Slovakia: Community and influence
The story of the Navigators in Slovakia began in the 1970s, when a group of Slovak believers started connecting with the international Navigator movement. Even before the Velvet Revolution, around 80 people were gathering regularly for Bible study and personal growth rooted in biblical principles. These early meetings laid the foundation for what would become D3, a civic association officially registered in 1990.
Led by founders Milan Číčel, Daniel Raus, and František Ciesar, D3 was shaped as a community committed to integrity, maturity, and service. Over the years, members of the D3 network have been involved in a wide range of initiatives that continue to influence Slovak society—among them the Integra Foundation, Narnia and C. S. Lewis Schools, Návrat, and various businesses. These projects reflect the heart of the ministry: responding to real needs through education, humanitarian work, entrepreneurship, and family care.
One of D3’s most significant contributions has been in education. The movement helped establish the C. S. Lewis High School and developed its Religion and Ethics curriculum, creating a safe and open space for students to explore life’s deepest questions. Mentoring has become a central focus, with D3 providing training and coaching for mentors and leaders in schools across the country. The goal is simple but profound: that every student would have someone who knows them and walks with them.
Community life remains at the core of the ministry. Alongside Bible studies and mentoring, D3 hosts an annual summer retreat for 100–150 participants—a time of learning, rest, and fellowship. Since 2019, the Baraka residential community has offered students, alumni, and teachers a ten-month program of shared living and spiritual growth.
Together with the Agathe Center for Social Entrepreneurship (The Navigators in Central and Eastern Europe), D3 continues to invest in people who desire to grow in their faith and shape society for the better. The movement remains rooted in relational discipleship, long-term investment, and a vision to see lives transformed through the gospel of Jesus.
